About Marwa

Marwa was born in Damascus, Syria in 1991. At only 19 years old, a war started that would alter her country and her life forever.

She started to volunteer for refugees from other cities who came to Damascus and provided families with food and education.

When she was 24 years old, she was involved in an accident because of the war. She became paralysed from the waist down.

Her path led her to Germany, where she took up volunteer work again: this time, as an advocate for the protection of civilians as part of the political declaration on EWIPA. She’s been speaking at UN congresses and sharing her story, thereby becoming a voice for the millions of civilians who are suffering the consequences of war.

She’s training to become an occupational therapist: not in spite of her disability, but because of it. Her unique experience enables her to approach patients with empathy and knowledge.

She’s also vocal about disability rights, having met with politicians internationally to remind them of the importance of an accessible world.
